#HeadspaceStories in 2 minutes and 21 seconds: Allan Gray of Cosmient
Headspace Stories are about getting to know the residents of our Manchester, Marylebone and Farringdon Spaces. Being part of the Headspace Network, means working alongside some amazing entrepreneurial business minds. This week I was fortunate enough to share a cup of coffee and have a chat with Allan Gray of Cosmient. Read the story in just 2 minutes 21 seconds.
What is Cosmient?
Cosmient is my holding company that I'm using as a vehicle to launch various projects and companies.
One project is focused on the invention and patenting of a new material with special properties for heating large or small surfaces and objects at a very low power cost, much lower than that available in the market today.
I have two smaller projects, one related to preparing space tourists for their trip to space which uses body sensors and VR, the other is aimed at highlighting a child's social media output, specifically those posts that have the potential to damage their career before it’s even begun. These two projects are temporarily on hold while I focus on launching my main new venture.
My main new venture is a dating platform but with a highly controversial twist and a long term altruistic plan. I'm expecting nothing but a wild ride on this one and it's the one that lights my fire the most. More will be revealed in the coming months.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I like solving big problems in creative ways and I've worked hard to get myself into a position where I now have the freedom to pursue work that really interests me and incorporates both of those things.
Finish the sentence: The ideal way to start my day is...
Have breakfast, read a book on the train (there's only so much social media I can take), have a coffee, go to the gym and then start work.
What would you like to win a lifetime supply of?
Ample food and shelter for those around the world that don't have it.
What book do you think everyone should read?
Given the type of audience that might read this, I'd say it's the one that I'm just finishing now. It's called Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance. If you're a founder or an employee at a start-up, this gives you an insight into what it really takes to make it happen. This guy is changing the world in a way that many industry experts said was impossible.
Is it true that you are the Future Cosmonaut?
Future Astronaut is the term they use but given my fondness of Russia and its space history, I quite like Future Cosmonaut. So yes, it's true. I bought my ticket in September 2014 shortly after selling my last business and I've been having a blast ever since. I've met some great people and had some very unique opportunities since I signed up with Virgin Galactic ranging from partying on Necker Island with the man himself, an adventure to the South Pole with Buzz Aldrin and digging up a new species of dinosaur in New Mexico!
