Celebrating National Tea Day, Headspace Style

We take our tea very seriously, get the story and recipes in 2 minutes 20 seconds

As the Community Assistant here at Headspace group it is my mission to make sure all of our Headspacers are getting the most out of our beautiful space. I am not only responsible for the popular Summer and Christmas Parties, but making sure networking opportunities (both fun or informative) are kept a priority all year round.

So, I couldn`t very well let National Tea Day pass us, without celebrating this quintessential English drink ‘Headspace’ style.

We take our brew making seriously here at Headspace and last Friday we took to it with a little bit of spirit… Gin and Rum to be exact. Headspacers enjoyed some tea-riffic concoctions and puns made by yours truly.

Our Farringdon Headspacers started their weekends off in style. The clear favorites of the afternoon (judged by fast decreasing volumes) was the Mo-Tea-To (Green Tea Infusion) and Earl Grey Lemon Drizzle Cake. The G and Tea (Earl Grey Infusion) was more of an acquired taste, (think Negroni/Aperol), but without a doubt, was a hit with our Gin lovers (you know who you are).

Headspacers also had the chance to win a Nordic Afternoon Tea for Two at Aster London. Although there was some tough competition, we are delighted to announce that the best selfie goes to Hayley Goodsell from That Lot at Headspace Farringdon. Well done Hayley, cant wait to hear how you got on.

Although we may not be experts quite yet, here at Headspace, we have learnt a thing or two when it comes to brewing tea…

1. ALL varieties of tea, whether it’s green, black, white or oolong come from the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis. Apparently the secret to making each variety, is how it is prepared and fermented afterwards!

2. Tea really does diminish our troubles

3. The magic tea to water ratio is 3g Tea : 277.3ml Water

4. Water must not be boiling, as this will bring out the acidity of the leaves. There is no reversing the damage once this is done, no matter how much extra water you top it up with

5. Large amounts of loose leaf tea (up to 3 litres) can be brewed all at once using 1 extra large bowl and 1 household sift

6. Whist it can be served hot or cold… it makes a popular accompaniment to gin, rum and cake

As the newest member of the Headspace team, our National Tea Day celebration was my event debut, so needless to say I was filled with some excited nerves on the day. It was so wonderful to have such a great turnout and positive feedback from everyone. I can`t wait for you to see what I have in store for you this summer! #wimbledon #carnival #summerparty
